Spanish-American War era US military bolt action infantry rifle manufactured circa 1899. Features a blued & case hardened finish, 30" barrel, pinned blade front sight, tangent type rear sight (modified 1898 slider, appears to be on a 1902 base) graduated to 2,000 yards, two barrel bands with bayonet lug & stacking swivel on the front band, side-mounted 5 round hinged magazine with cut-off on the left side of the receiver, polished bolt with two-position safety on the rear, smooth trigger, sling swivels, smooth walnut handguard and straight grip shoulder stock with finger grooves in the forend, trapdoor metal buttplate. Bore is dark with strong rifling. Retains 60% finish with much metal turning brown, receiver showing a mottled dark & light gray color. Wood is good condition or better with gouging/roughness around front of magazine, dents and scrapes. Stock has been lightly varnished. Handguard has a different color from the stock, appears dry with little oil finish applied. "JLA 1899" cartouche on left wrist, "82" and "P" in circle on bottom of wrist.
